The Missouri Athletic Trainers’ Association has its Capitol Visit event in Jefferson City during the spring legislative session. The MoATA Governmental Affairs Committee plans to hold 4 lobbying days:
Wednesday, January 21
Tuesday, February 10
Wednesday, March 11
Tuesday, April 7
To balance the work and effect of these meetings, we want to focus the first 2 lobbying days (January 21 and February 10) on what athletic training is and the education process for ATs, which means we want to set aside these 2 days for visits from AT education programs. This will leave open the last 2 days (March 11 and April 7) for more focused meetings between certified athletic trainers and their legislators. Each date is open to either athletic training students or ATs, but ideally students would attend the first two dates with their schools and ATs would attend the second two dates.
If you would like to attend a Capitol Visit Day with MoATA please email Josh Thompson at least 10 days prior to the meeting days. Provide your full name and the names of your Senator and Representative. Josh will arrange scheduling appointments with your legislators.
If you do not know who your legislators are, you may use the following web site: http://www.senate.mo.gov/LegisLookup/Default.aspx. Please use your home address when conducting this search and be aware that the legislator database may not be fully updated yet.
When you contact Josh to let him know you will be attending, you will receive information regarding general information (e.g. arrival time, preferred dress, and parking information) and main talking points to share with your legislators.
We hope to see you at the capitol. If you have any questions, please contact:
