Rick Larsen, MS, ATC passed away on Thursday, Feb. 6, after a six-year battle with cancer. Rick was a long-time member of the Missouri Athletic Trainers’ Association and was the Head Athletic Trainer at Washington University in St Louis where he worked for 39 years.
In addition to his duties at Washington University, Larsen worked part-time with the St Louis Football Cardinals (1982-87) and the St Louis Stampeded arena football team (1995-96). He was the coordinator of athletic training services for the AAU National Junior Olympics (1986), the U.S. National Senior Olympics (1989) and for the movie The Game of Their Lives, filmed in St Louis (2003). Rick was also a clinical preceptor for Saint Louis University’s Athletic Training Program and a cherished mentor to many athletic trainers.
Rick Larsen is survived by his wife Debbie, children Lindsay Pritchett (Bryan) and Brian (Mary), sister Cari, and grandchildren Brady and Connor.
In lieu of flowers, the Larsen family has requested that contributions be made to the Rick Larsen Sports Medicine Fund at Washington University.
