From Gary Herman at Mercy Sports Medicine......Athletic Trainers work with student athletes who have sustained serious injuries (ACL tears, labral tears, concussions). These student athletes go through many mental challenges during their rehabilitation process. One of them decided to come up with a group that allows these student athletes to communicate with each other to discuss what they are going through. The student brought this to my attention and we have created a Facebook page called SideLine (for student-athletes with injuries). Our mission statement is: An environment where student-athletes with sports injuries (surgical, non-surgical, concussion, etc) can discuss their worries, fears, joys, and accomplishments along their journey to return to play. We also post weekly thoughts in regard to the rehabilitation process (physically and mentally), nutrition, goal setting, and anything else that is related to the student athletes injury. Looking for CEUs? Check out these new opportunities on our upcoming events page:
Washington University School of Medicine will host their 7th Annual Sports Medicine Update on July 20 and 21.
This
year’s conference will provide current and state-of-the-art evaluation and
management of common sports medicine topics by increasing competence and
performance in caring for the school-aged to college athlete.
Are you licensed to practice in Missouri? Athletic Trainers are licensed healthcare professionals through the Missouri Department of Professional Registration's Board of Healing Arts. Licensure is NOT optional and athletic trainers practicing without licensing or with a expired license are subject to new disciplinary procedures. Any Certified Athletic Trainer who is hired to work in Missouri, including Graduate Assistants, must apply for and receive their license before beginning their duties. Contact the Board of Healing Arts with questions about licensure at 573-751-0098
Congratulations to our MoATA members!
